In 2020, our family of three became a family of four with the addition of a beautiful Spring Hills Australian Cobberdog. We fell in love with the breed almost instantly - their innate ability to connect, nurture, and adapt within human life is like nothing we'd experienced before.
That one dog inspired us to grow our family further, and led us to begin breeding Australian Cobberdogs ourselves - so that other families could experience the same emotional warmth, trainability, and calm, soothing nature that had won us over. Today, Chrystal Nova Australian Cobberdogs is a small, boutique, family-owned business located on superb acreage on the Mid North Coast of NSW, registered with MDBA, the purebred registry that oversees the development of the breed.
It's of paramount importance to us that our dogs live the best life possible. On our property, they have the freedom to roam and play, to sniff, explore, and keep up with all their doggy hobbies - because we believe dogs need room to simply be dogs.
We train using positive reinforcement only, building trust and a strong, positive association between our dogs and the people around them. Socialisation beyond our property is just as important, and we do this in supervised settings so our dogs learn to navigate the world with confidence, not fear or aggression.
Nutrition is treated with the same level of care. Our dogs are fed a species-appropriate, high-quality raw diet of meats and vegetables, tailored to each individual - accounting for breed, age, energy levels, pregnancy, illness, and any other factors that shape their needs.
Above all, we love and treasure our dogs. We believe happy dogs make happy babies - and that belief guides everything we do.

Our Approach to Breeding
As boutique, ethical breeders, our dogs and puppies are raised in our home as part of our family - not in a kennel or outdoor housing. We believe that's simply how it should be. Our pups grow up surrounded by everyday life, love, and human connection from the very beginning, because we know that early experience shapes the dog they'll become.
Right now, we're proud to share our home with three beautiful breeding girls, each treasured as part of our family long before, during, and after their breeding journey. We've also begun a guardian program, allowing even more of our girls to live full, loved lives in caring homes while continuing to contribute to our breeding program. When a girl's breeding journey has come to a close at age five, she doesn't go anywhere - she simply gets to relax into life as the pampered, much-loved pet she has always been.
Matching each puppy to the right family is something we take enormous care with. Throughout their early weeks, we closely observe how each pup responds to their littermates, other dogs, people, and the everyday sounds and textures of life. We're watching for their energy levels, human focus, emotional warmth, confidence, sound sensitivity, tolerance to touch, and assertiveness - because understanding these traits early means we can help nurture and continue them in the right forever home.
As our pups grow, we introduce gentle handling exercises and regularly change up their environment throughout the day, helping build the confidence and adaptability they'll carry with them for life.
Every puppy leaves us thoroughly prepared for their new lives. By the time they head home, they're de-wormed, vaccinated, microchipped, raised on a nutrient-dense raw diet, and have had a full health check from our trusted vet.
Cobberdog Sizing
The Australian Cobberdog are bred in three main sizes. They are:
Miniature Cobberdog

Nova, we breed Medium - Standard size only.
Colours and Coats
The Australian Cobberdog come in many colours and have three coat types.
Colours can include:
- Red
- White
- Apricot
- Raven
- Blonde
- Chocolate
Fleece coats are:
- Straight
- Wavy
- Curly
Visually, there is little difference
between the straight and wavy coat, with only the genetics
differing.
A Cobberdog coat is low
allergenic, low to non-shedding,
has no odour, and is easy to care for,
as it repels dirt.
Australian Cobberdogs wear their coats beautifully - soft, flowing, and full of personality. To keep that lovely coat looking its best, regular brushing and grooming is a must. If a lower maintenance routine suits your lifestyle better, many families choose to keep their coat trimmed short, which is just as easy to care for and every bit as gorgeous.
